California lawmakers approve right-to-die legislation

The Assembly today approved a measure that would allow California physicians to prescribe life-ending drugs to terminally ill patients.

The legislation passed by a vote of 42-33 after lawmakers offered passionate, often deeply personal arguments both in favor and against the bill.

The legislation now goes to the state Senate, which is expected to pass the measure.
